Renormalizable Abelian-projected effective gauge theory derived from Quantum Chromodynamics

Abstract We show that an effective Abelian gauge theory can be obtained as a renormalizable theory from QCD in the maximal Abelian gauge. The derivation improves the previous version which was obtained by one of the authors and was called the Abelianprojected effective gauge theory. This result supports a view that we can construct an effective Abelian gauge theory from QCD without losing characteristic features of the original non-Abelian gauge theory. In fact, it is shown that the effective coupling constant in the resulting renormalizable theory has the renormalization-scale dependence governed by the β-function which is exactly the same as the original Yang-Mills theory (irrespective of the choice of gauge fixing parameters of the maximal Abelian gauge and the parameters used for identifying the dual variables). By choosing the renormalized parameters appropriately, we can switch the theory into the electric or magnetic theory.

Renormalizable Abelian-Projected Effective Gauge Theory Derived from Quantum Chromodynamics II
In the previous paper[1], we derived the Abelian projected effective gauge theory as a low energy effective theory of the SU(N) Yang-Mills theory by adopting the maximal Abelian gauge. At that time, we have demonstrated the multiplicative renormalizability of the propagators for the diagonal gluon and the dual Abelian antisymmetric tensor field. In this paper, we show the multiplicative renorma...

The generalization of quantum electrodynamics to include non-abelian gauge fields produces the asymptotically free gauge theory called quantum chromodynamics (QCD) which describes the strong interactions. The natural forum to construct the properly gauge fixed (renormalizable) Lagrangian with which to perform calculations, is provided by the path integral machinery. For instance in the Landau g...
متن کاملNon-abelian gauge theories as a consequence of perturbative quantum gauge invariance
We show for the case of interacting massless vector bosons, how the structure of YangMills theories emerges automatically from a more fundamental concept, namely perturbative quantum gauge invariance. It turns out that the coupling in a non-abelian gauge theory is necessarily of Yang-Mills type plus divergenceand coboundary couplings. The extension of the method to massive gauge theories is bri...

The principle components of the Standard Model and the status of their experimental verification are reviewed. The Standard Model (SM), which combines the SU(2) L ×U(1) Y Glashow-Weinberg-Salam theory of electroweak interactions 1 together with Quantum Chromodynamics, 2 constitutes a remarkable achievement. The formulation of the theory as a renormalizable quantum theory preserves its predictiv...
متن کاملOn the Elimination of Scale Ambiguities in Perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics*
We present a new method for resolving the scheme-scale ambiguity that has’ plagued perturbative analyses in quantum chromodynamics (QCDI and other gauge theories. For Abelian theories the method reduces to the standard criterion that only vacuum polarization insertions contribute to the effective coupling constant. Given a scheme, our procedure automatically determines the coupling-constant sca...
